October 1, 2012 1:35 PM

The Louisiana Wildlife Federation was well represented at this year’s National Hunting and Fishing Day celebration in Baton Rouge, held Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Louisiana Deptartment of Wildlife and Fisheries’ Waddill Outdoor EducationCenter.

The event, held each year in honor of the Congressionally-decreed day to honor America’s hunting, fishing and conservation heritage, attracted thousands of outdoor enthusiasts from the Baton Rouge area and featured wild game cooked by volunteers, fishing, hunting and kayak demonstrations and live wildlife and fish exhibits. Similar events were held near Alexandria,Monroe and Minden. All events were free and open to the public.

LWF volunteers and staff manned a table at the Baton Rouge event, handing out brochures and magazines highlighting the organization’s work and taking registrations for the 2013 Sportsmen for the Coast/Vanishing Paradise kayak giveaway, featuring a Kajun Custom Kayak in wetlands camouflage.

The LWF table also gave kids an opportunity to learn about some of Louisiana’s flora and fauna by seeing and touching tanned animal pelts as well as Spanish moss and other native vegetation.

Several LWF affiliates participated in National Hunting and Fishing Day events across the state including East Ascension Sportsman’s League, Rapides Wildlife Association, Black Bear Conservation Coalition and Louisiana Hiking Association.
