01/07/2003

As part of this year's big Earth Day celebration, Sunday, April 20 in downtown Baton Rouge, the Louisiana Wildlife Federation & Friends will once again be hosting the "Nature in Your Neighborhood" exhibit.  Featured at the exhibit will be:

  • WWHOO – the Wonderful World of Hawks, Owls and Others with live birds displayed under the care of wildlife educators from Wildlife In Distress of Lafayette;

  • Robinsong Birdhouses – bat, bluebird, wood duck, warbler, squirrel, butterfly and ladybug "houses" crafted by Robbie Robinson of Baton Rouge;

  • Guessing game to identify "what's in the box" by touching (but not seeing) various items from Nature;

  • Display of backyard wildlife, from bugs to lizards, toads and maybe even a snake or two, wildflower displays, wildlife booklets, posters and magazines; and

  • Drawing for prizes for participants in the LWF's Earth Day "Wildlife Watch."  Just get your checklist, check off the observations you make, and bring it to the "Nature In Your Neighborhood" exhibit (# 22) to enter the drawing for some nice wildlife watching prizes.  As a special incentive for youngsters to participate, the first 100 school-aged (K-12) participants to enter will receive a wildlife pin.
